Is your skin lacking its natural moisture, looking dull and feeling irritated by the cold winter air? Here are some top tips for keeping your skin looking and feeling its best.
The winter months are not only a dark and dull time to get through but they also damage our skin. The winter brisk air can leave our skin feeling irritated and raw, cold temperatures make our healthy skin looking dry and is said to contribute ageing if not looked after.
There are many simple remedies for maintaining healthy skin and to prevent dry winter skin.
1. Picking the right moisturiser
Using the right product helps maintain its balance, reduces skin problems and leaves your skin looking healthy. Moisturizing everyday with a product that is best suited to your skin type is key and can reduce the chances of having extreme dryness or oiliness. These extremes can cause many skin conditions such as acne and eczema. Moisturizing helps your skin maintain balance and helps those little or large blemishes to be concealed.
And don't forget about those kissable lips coming up to Valentine's day! Using a lip bamb is absolutely necessary in winter months. Using a product with petroleum jelly can help your lips feel more moisturised and looking less chapped.
2. Avoiding harsh cleansers
Using natural products to cleanse the face to get rid of dirt, pollutants and dead skin cells is essential for having healthy skin. Using a harsh cleanser strips the skin too much, damaging the skin further. Natural products leave enough sebum behind for your skin to continue to do its job while staying healthy, balanced and looking its best.
3. Water temperature while showering
What sounds better than a long hot shower or bath in the cold winter months, it may sound irresistible but ADD, the american academy of dermatology suggests taking shorter showers in lukewarm water. If the water is turning your skin red lower that temp down! Cooler water is just as effective for removing germs and cleaning your skin without damaging it.
Another thing we all love to do is cranking up the heating during the winter. Heating in the house makes the air drier, if your central heating is set at a nice and warm temperature it will prevent your skin from drying out and zapping the moisture from it!
4. Sunscreen Sunscreen and Sunscreen
Sunscreen in winter may sound bizarre but even on dull days harsh UV rays can cut through heavy clouds damaging our skin. Applying a high spf daily can and will reduce sun damage to your skin.
